Gambling help in South Australia
This guide is about a hotel, but the hotel shares a building with a casino. If gambling is causing harm to you or someone close to you, help is free, confidential and available at any hour.
Talk to someone now
Gambling Help Online: 1800 858 858. The South Australian government’s Gambling Harm Support SA service lists this number on its homepage as free, confidential and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also chat or read support material at gamblinghelponline.org.au.
Gambling Harm Support SA administers the state’s Gambler’s Rehabilitation Fund and has resources for people who gamble and for the people around them: gamblingharmsupport.sa.gov.au.
Barring yourself
At the venue
Gambling Harm Support SA says you can ask a staff member at the venue where you gamble — including SkyCity Adelaide Casino — to bar you from the gambling area for a period of time or indefinitely.
Through the regulator
You can ask Consumer and Business Services to bar you from areas where gambling takes place, or from online gambling, and from betting and commercial lotteries. Call 131 882.
BetStop
The national self-exclusion register blocks you from licensed Australian online and phone gambling providers: betstop.com.au.
If you are worried about someone else
Family members and friends can ask for a third-party barring order, which Gambling Harm Support SA describes as legally binding: it can stop a person from gambling at the casino, entering areas with gaming machines in hotels and clubs, betting on racing or sport and buying commercial lottery tickets. Call 131 882 for details, or read the barring page on the government site.
At SkyCity Adelaide
SkyCity Adelaide has Host Responsibility Coordinators and publishes host responsibility information on its own site. Its age rule is simple: 18 or older to enter any gaming area, with photo ID on request. Children may never be left unattended while an adult enters a gaming area.
Our position
Riverbank Adelaide does not promote gambling. We do not describe games, bonuses or prizes, we carry no gambling advertising, and nothing on this site relates to online gambling, which the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 restricts in Australia. We mention the casino only because it shares a building with the hotel we review. If you came here for a festival, a match or a meal, that is what this guide is for.
